Press release from16 December 2020: The approval of the Draft Law on ANI will compromise the mission of the Authority
The National Integrity Authority reiterates its concern about the draft law elaborated by a group of Members of Parliament, which proposes to amend Law no. 132/2016 on the National Integrity Authority, a project already included in the agenda of today's, 16 December, 2020 meeting of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
Last week, ANI gave a negative opinion (see link) on this project, signalling the unfavourable consequences and unintended effects on the control files currently underway at ANI, including issues related to the sanctioning and enforcement of bans, in case if this project will be adopted in the proposed version.
Therefore, we note with regret that the Authority's warnings against this draft law have not been taken into account, and the proposed amendments will lead to the blockade of the work of integrity inspectors, by significantly reducing the anti-corruption instruments at their disposal and to the impossibility of fully accomplishing of the Authority’s mission.
